Abstract : Observations were made of the numbers of mango flowers visited by different pollinating insects (small, syrphid or blue flies, and Coccinella septempunctata) in one minute at the time of peak blooming, at the Horticultural Research Centre of the University of Agriculture and Technology at Pantnagar in Uttar Pradesh (India), in 1997-98. Further observations were also made on the number of different pollinators per panicle per minute, in order to record pollinating efficiency. The total population of small flies and of C. septempunctata visiting panicles per minute was greater than those of syrphid and blue flies. However, the number of flowers visited per panicle per minute was greatest for C. septempunctata, followed by blue, syrphid and small flies.
