Abstract : Fungicides were evaluated for the control of powdery mildew of mangoes, caused by Oidium mangiferae, in field trials in Pakistan. Thiophanate-methyl (as Topsin-M), mancozeb (as Dithane M-45) and propineb (as Antracol) were evaluated in 1996 and sulfur (as Thiovit), penconazole (as Topas), Darosal, copper hydroxide (as Nordox), hexaconazole (as Anvil), fosetyl (as Aliette) and fenarimol (as Rubigan) were evaluated in 1997. Maximum disease control was observed with thiophanate-methyl and sulfur when applied at the 20-30% and 30-40% flowering stages followed by 2 sprays with 15 d intervals. Thiophanate-methyl and sulfur also were effective when applied at 50-80% disease incidence. Both these fungicides completely inhibited the conidial germination of fungus, even when applied at half of the recommended dose.
