Abstract : Field and laboratory methods of indexing the vigour of citrus, mango and apples in the nursery are reviewed. It is concluded that stem growth rate is a good parameter provided it is considered in relation to root bark percentage, root bark:wood ratio or the electrical resistance of stem sap.
