Abstract : The build up and persistence of insecticide residues on mangoes was evaluated following post-harvest dip treatments of mature fruits in dimethoate and deltamethrin solutions. The insecticide deposits on whole fruits from both the treatments persisted until complete ripening. Higher dimethoate residues were found in fruit pulp than deltamethrin. However, rapid loss of dimethoate was observed. Prolonged persistence of deltamethrin residues at higher levels over the prescribed maximum residue limit values at full ripening did not favour its post-harvest application for pest control in mangoes.
