Abstract : The goal of the Vambu (Valuing Mangoes in Burkina Faso) project is to operationalize the concept of sustainable development. By focusing on organic agriculture and by taking a production to consumption user responsive systems research approach the project aims to integrate social, ecological and economic constraints into Burkina Faso's bio-food industry. The results of five years of per-feasibility studies (1993-98) are presented and prospects for the future are considered.
