Abstract : Tommy Atkins mango fruits from trees growing in Ibimirim, in the semi-arid region of the Moxotó river valley in Pernambuco, Brazil, were harvested 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120 and 125 days after the fruits had reached pinhead size and evaluated at harvest or after storage at 12°C either for 5 days or until ripening was complete. Fruits harvested 105 days after reaching pinhead size achieved a harvesting index with acceptable marketing quality for export purposes (firmness of 12.2 kg/cm², 7.2°Brix and 0.85% citric acid) while fruits harvested at the age of 125 days were no longer suitable for long distance markets.
