Abstract : A 5% solution of CPTA in acetone was poured over cv. Guruvam mango fruits when fully mature. One week after treatment the skin of the treated fruit was still green but had some darkened patches. Beneath the darkened patches the flesh was a tomato red colour and from chromotographic studies was found to be similar to lycopene in tomato fruits. Fruit treated with acetone alone had only characteristic yellow flesh.
