Abstract : The effects of soil drenching with paclobutrazol (PBZ) using different dates of application (15 September and 15 October 1993 and 1994), on fruit quality of 4 mango cultivars was studied for 16- to 17-year-old trees growing at Pantnagar, Uttar Pradesh (India). Fruits of 15 September-treated trees ripened significantly earlier than those of 15 October and control trees in all cultivars. PBZ increased pulp:stone ratio, and reduced epicarp and stone weight and size. Early application of PBZ increased fruit TSS [total soluble solids], acidity, sugar, ascorbic acid and carotene contents.
