Physico chemical characteristics of some mango varieties under Bhagalpur (Bihar) conditions.

Abstract : Field trials in 1981-90 in Bihar compared 101 mango varieties. Cv. Fazli had the highest fruit size (15.02×10.52 cm) and the highest fruit weight (545.0 g/fruit) and cv. Safeda Malihabadi had the lowest fruit weight (75.0 g/fruit). Pulp content was in the range 56.7 (Safeda Malihabadi) to 85.0% (cv. Puttu). Cv. Dalma, Mandhappa and Puttu had more than 80.0% pulp while 24 other cultivars pulp content was in the range 75.0-79.9%. Skin percentage was lowest in Latra (8.9%) while stone percentage was lowest in Puttu (4.4%). Cv. Anannas, Bharatbhog, Husnearah and Kalapady had the highest TSS (26.0%) values while Kurukkane, Pahutan, Puttu and Taimurlang had the lowest (15.0-16.0%). Cv. Cluster had the highest (0.7148%) and cv. Husnearah and Safeda Sarbati had the lowest (0.0603%). Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) content was highest in cv. Langra (150 mg/100 g juice) followed by Maldah (125 mg/100 g juice) and lowest in cv. Mohanbhog (6.2 mg/100 g juice).
