Abstract : Integrated pest management (IPM) participatory extension originated from the cooperation between the Royal Thai Government and the Federal Republic of Germany. The work started with eastern region fruit growers on two fruit crops, durian and mango, in January 1994. Six guiding principles encouraged staff to work together with the fruit growers. The fruit growers expressed their satisfaction in participatory learning and IPM practices resulted in the reduction of chemical sprays and expenses with higher profits and a healthier and better environment. IPM participatory extension enhanced human resource development by using peoples' capacities to work together, exchange experiences, and to increase knowledge and skill through an on-the-job learning method.
