Abstract : Mango, (Mangifera indica L.) is of prime importance among the commercial fruits grown in Gujarat State. This crop suffers regularly a collosal loss due to ravages of pests in nursery as well as in field conditions. Studies of the insect pests infesting mango root stocks in nursery and their relative occurrence in south Gujarat revealed that thrips (Pantachaetothrips sp., Selenothrips rubrocinctus Giard, Caliothrips impurus Priesner, Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood), shoot borer (Chlumetia transversa Walker), mango hopper (Amritodus atkinsoni Lethierry), gall midge (Procontarinia matteiana Kieffer and Cecconi), leaf eating caterpillars (Chelasia spathota Meyrick, Penicillaria jocosatrix Guenee), leaf eating weevils Deporaus marginellus Faust and Crinorrhinus crassirostris Faust, leaf miner (Acrocercops syngramma Meyrick), scales (Eucalymnatus tessellatus Signoret and Ceroplastes actiniformis Green), mites (Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisduval and Oligonychus mangiferus Rahman and Sapra), leaf mining weevil (Rhynchaenus mangiferae Marshall) and mealy bug (Drosicha mangiferae Green) were the pests found. The nature and extent of damage as well as an integrated pest management strategy are reviewed and discussed.
