Conservation of tropical fruit and vegetable crops germplasm in eastern India.

Abstract : The Central Horticultural Experiment Station has holdings of fruit, vegetable and ornamental crop germplasm from across India and undertakes characterization and evaluation, incorporating suitable germplasm into its fruit and vegetable breeding programmes. The germplasm collections include 715 accessions of fruit crops (including 290 of mango, 115 of banana and 102 of pawpaws), 1829 accessions of vegetables (including 550 of aubergines, 320 of Phaseolus and 350 of tomato), and 366 accession of ornamentals (including 165 of rose). Information is presented on promising genotypes identified for commercial exploitation.
