Abstract : Studies were undertaken to standardize epicotyl grafting in Amrapali mango for the agro-climatic conditions of the Gangetic plain in Bihar. Grafting was done in July by the cleft method using precured scions on 5-, 10- and 15-day-old seedling rootstocks. Scions were prepared by defoliating at different periods (0, 5, 10 and 15 days before cutting for grafting). The results of these investigations revealed that scions defoliated 10 days before grafting should be grafted on 5-day-old seedling rootstocks to achieve maximum success, survival and vigour of grafts. Studies indicated that as the age of rootstocks increased success in grafting was reduced. Predefoliation of scions was beneficial but success declined as the period of defoliation was extended.
