Abstract : A field experiment was conducted at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, during 1989-91 to determine the influence of bark inversion and its effect on mango rootstock. All the methods of bark inversion in mango reduced the vigour of stock. Bark inversion in mature stock (one month age) and immature stock (1-2 weeks) types showed that though bark inversion on immature stock was very effective in reducing the plant height (18.26 cm), percentage of established plants was very low (7.5%). The matured stock showed plant height of 27.85 cm. A length of 2.00 cm bark inversion reduced the seedling height to 28.00 cm compared to 1.00 cm length bark inversion (29.47 cm) and no bark inversion (38.12 cm). When three-fourth ring or full ring of bark inversions were compared with no bark inversion, seedling height was reduced to 20.57 cm with three-fourth ring of bark inversion compared to full ring (26.74 cm). The stocks without bark inversion showed the maximum seedling height (42.27 cm).
