Abstract : A study was conducted to determine the occurrence of fruit flies infesting mango in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Data were obtained by trapping and analysis of quarantine fruits. The traps were installed in 3 crowns, and hydrolysed maize protein was utilized as an attractant. The captured material was collected and the attractant replaced at weekly intervals. A total of 45 specimens of fruit flies were captured from August 1995 to July 1996, with Ceratitis capitata as the most dominant species. Only three specimens of Anastrepha were captured. The harvested fruits were not infested with fruit flies. The highest number of C. capitata occurred during the mango fructification period. The pests fleeted from the orchard in humid months.
