Abstract : The aqueous extracts and slurry from powdered preparations of Ocimum gratissimum, Acalypha ciliata, Vernonia amygdalina, Mangifera indica and Azadirachta indica leaves controlled the growth of Colletotrichum capsici, controlled and reduced in vitro the spread of brown blotch disease in cowpea. All of the tested concentrations of plant crude extracts reduced the growth of the fungus in culture and significantly reduced the incidence and severity of the disease. O. gratissimum and A. ciliata were the most effective of the plant materials used. The plant extract also compared favourably with benlate.
