Lateral bud growth in Mangifera indica L. in relation to auxin and inhibitor content of shoots and fruits.

Abstract : Experiments on the possible involvement of natural inhibitors in apical dominance in mango included shoot pruning, girdling and TIBA and kinetin treatments. Pruning was the one treatment that reduced apical dominance. Both growth-promoting and inhibiting substances were found in fruiting shoots and fruit at different stages of development; these compounds reached maximum levels when the fruit was pea-sized and thereafter fell steadily. Fruiting shoots contained higher levels than non-fruiting shoots.
