Abstract : Metabolic changes associated with malformation in four mango cultivars were studied and it was observed that malformed tissues had severely disturbed carbohydrate and nitrogen metabolism. C/N ratio was higher in malformed panicles than in healthy ones, which indicates the possibility of inadequate utilization of sugars and nitrogen unavailability at the time of flower induction. Nitrate reductase activity was drastically reduced in malformed tissues and this may be taken as a biochemical marker to detect the degree of severity of malformation.
