Abstract : Mango cultivars Kensington, Magovar and Haden, were grown on a Tatura trellis at densities of 1666, 666 and 476 trees per hectare in Western Australia. These cultivars were chosen for their differing vigour, with Haden being the most vigorous and Magovar the least. High yields of 6-14 t/ha were achieved during years 2 and 3. Dramatic yield decline was evident in Kensington and Haden at the higher densities in later years due to increased light competition. Recovery in yields was achieved when a thinning treatment was imposed in year 6. This study has shown that high density plantations have potential to increase early yields in vigorous cultivars and the Tatura trellis system has potential to increase yield per hectare in low vigour cultivars.
