Effect of different intervals of potassium nitrate spraying on flowering and production of mango trees (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Tommy Atkins.

Abstract : Flowering, number of fruits per panicle and plant, average fruit weight, production of fruits and economical aspects were studied in mango cv. Tommy Atkins grown in Bahia State, Brazil, from November 1995 to November 1996. Five randomly chosen plots of 4 plants each were treated with 3 applications of 3% KNO3 at differing time intervals (a sixth plot served as control): no treatment and 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 day intervals. KNO3 promoted flowering and increased the number of fruits set per plant compared with the control. KNO3 treatment promoted higher production per tree and a better relationship between costs and benefits.
