Abstract : Economic and environmental impacts of agricultural technologies, and energy balance (inputs such as labour, fuel, fertilizers, pesticides, machinery, electricity, plastics and cardboard, and output as yield) of different tropical fruit production systems, namely banana, mango, pawpaw and sapodilla (which is grown as a shade tree in cocoa plantations) in Mexico are discussed, with particular reference to the risks associated with each system.
