Abstract : Taxonomy, morphological characteristics, symptoms and control measurements of anthracnose-causing fungi with special emphasis on those affecting tropical fruits are reviewed. The host-specific species Colletotrichum musae on bananas and C. kahawae on coffee are described, as well as the polyphagous world-wide distributed species C. gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata] causing typical anthracnose fruit spots on citrus, mangoes, avocados, pawpaws and passion fruits, leaf spots on cashew nuts and stem cankers on cassava.
