Abstract : Soft X-ray film imaging was used to predict the presence of mango seed weevil (MSW) [Sternochetus mangiferae] in intact mango fruit. The X-ray film image of a weevil-infested mango has a distinct feature of dark grey patches corresponding to the internal cavities within the seed providing positive detection of weevil infestation. Line scan X-ray machine at 0.5 mm resolution provided the same image clarity as the X-ray film. The degree of infestation increased as the season progressed.
