Abstract : Twelve distinct polyembryonic types of mango (Mangifera indica) were located in a survey conducted in the central part of Kerala. The characters of these types were described on the basis of the descriptive bank for mango. The trees located belonged to the age group of 10-80 years and all except one exhibited regular bearing habit. The vegetative characters (leaf shape, size, colour etc.) and floral characters (inflorescence position, shape, size, colour, flower characters etc.) exhibited by these types showed great variation. Qualitative evaluation of their fruits was also conducted. The fruit weight ranged from 70 to 425 g and 9 types produced fruits in bunches. In the two types fruits were juicy and in the others the fruits were of medium table qualities. Seeds of the located types were collected and sown to test the occurrence of the polyembryonic character. The number of seedlings produced per seed ranged from 2 to 6.
