Molecular mapping of mango cultivars 'Alphonso' and 'Palmer'.

Abstract : A population of 31 plants from a cross between mango (Mangifera indica) cultivars Alphonso and Palmer was generated at the Pakchong Horticultural Research Station as a part of mango breeding programme. Some 197 RFLP markers derived from the Pst I genomic library of cv. Nang Klang Wan together with 650 loci of AFLP [amplified fragment length polymorphism] markers segregating for each parental loci were used to construct linkage maps corresponding to a pseudo-testcross scheme. All calculation were performed using the Mapmaker linkage analysis program. Some 365 loci segregating for Alphonso loci were divided into 63 groups with an average of 3.3 markers per group covering 1437.7 cM (average 10.4 cM interval). Some 369 markers corresponding to Palmer loci were divided into 59 groups with an average of 4.2 markers per group (average 7 cM interval).
