Abstract : Budwood of 10 mango cultivars and selections were imported into South Africa from Israel during 1997. These included two cultivars, Tango and Shelly, as well as 8 promising selections from their breeding programme. Six promising cultivars were also imported from Brazil in 1998, namely Alfa, Roxa, Amrapali, Imperial, Maca and Mallika. The new cultivars will be included in the ARC-Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Crops's cultivar and rootstock evaluation programmes. Brief characteristics, including parentage, of some of these introductions are presented.
