Abstract : The agronomic, economic and social factors influencing farmers' knowledge, perceptions and practices in pest management were assessed in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Case studies are presented for mango, Citrus and sapodilla. Ease of observation was an important aspect contribution to knowledge and perception of pests. Farmers relying on pesticide advice from the media sprayed with insecticides more frequently and applied more products, while extension stimulated the use of acaricides and increased the number of insecticide and fungicide sprays. Traditional biological control using Oecophylla smaragdina might be endangered by the growing media influence and when extension is confined to chemical pest control.
