Abstract : Respiration of banana, mango, longan, Litchi and Vanilla planifolia fruits in enclosed atmospheres was determined by measuring changes in carbon dioxide and oxygen levels. Respiration in mango fruits was further investigated using different cultivars and fruits at different developmental stages. The effect of temperature on respiration of Litchi and V. planifolia was also investigated. Factors influencing respiration included cultivar, temperature, fruit freshness and fruit physiological age.
