Abstract : This new mango variety was derived via open pollination followed by seedling selection of R2E2. Red1 forms an open, upright tree with low to moderate vigour. It is late fruiting and produces medium-sized fruits (mean 92.3 × 80.4 mm) with an ovate shape. The skin develops high levels of anthocyanin where sun-exposed, flesh very firm when ripe, texture smooth with low fibre, flesh colour orange. Fruiting characteristic is bunch-bearing while the seed is small and monoembryonic.
