Abstract : Mangoes cv. Tommy Atkins grown in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, were given 2, 3 or 4 pre-harvest sprays with 1 or 2% CaCl2 or were not sprayed, and fruits were refrigerated after harvest. CaCl2 did not affect Ca content of fruits, while fruit firmness was higher in treatments with 2 applications of 1% and 3 or 4 applications of 2% CaCl2 than other treatments. Concentrations of soluble solids and soluble sugars were not affected by CaCl2 concentration, but soluble solids were increased by 4 applications after 30 days of storage, and soluble sugars were increased by 4 applications immediately after harvest. Total titratable acids were decreased by 3 or 4 applications of 2% CaCl2.
