Abstract : Chlormequat and aminozide, each at 1000, 2000 or 4000 p.p.m., were applied to 4- and 21-year-old mango cvs Langra (alternate bearing) and Baramasia (regular bearing). Chlormequat treatments significantly reduced growth, irrespective of plant age or cv., promoted flowering in both cvs but particularly in Langra, and had a beneficial effect on fruit set and retention in young Langra plants only. Aminozide inhibited the growth of mature Langra trees but not that of young Langra trees, and promoted shoot growth in Baramasia. Its effects on flowering were similar to, but less marked than, those of chlormequat but it did not affect fruit set.
