Abstract : A study was conducted in the industrial town of Korba, Madhya Pradesh to evaluate heavy metals around a thermal power plant in terms of their effects on the economically important plant species Mangifera indica (mangoes) and Psidium guajava (guavas). Average dust deposition on M. indica was 0.79 mg cm-2, while it was 2.12 mg cm-2 on P. guajava. Plants were adversely affected by heavy metals, but P. guajava was more tolerant than M. indica, and it is suggested that this is therefore a suitable species to grow in the polluted environment.
