Growth and flowering potential in mango (Mangifera indica L.) under Dharwad conditions.

Abstract : The vertical and lateral growth and flowering in mango cultivars Alphanso, Dashehari, Baneshan, Totapuri, Neelum and hybrids Mallika and Neeleshan was studied under Dharwad conditions. Mallika and Totapuri developed the highest proportion of vertical growth, followed by Neelum and Neeleshan. All the cultivars and hybrids developed flower panicles. The greatest flowering was recorded from Mallika and Totapuri, while Alphanso, Deshehari and Baneshan recorded the least flowering. The lateral growth was highest in Neelum, followed by Mallika, Totapuri and Neeleshan. The regular bearing cultivars showed potential for flowering on lateral shoots, while the alternate bearers like Alphanso and Deshehari did not.
