Abstract : This paper focuses on the activities of the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in regulating and controlling the Mexican mango trade. New forms of social activity that result from both USDA incursions and technological advances in the fruit and vegetable industry are illustrated. It is argued that the long-range effects of USDA control are part and parcel of the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
