On the problems of tropical and subtropical fruit industry in China and some suggestion.

Abstract : In China, the cultivated area for citrus, litchi and longan is over 300?000 hm2 each; 100 hm2 for banana and mango; and over 60?000 hm2 for pineapple. The current status of fruit crop production; problems in the industry (low quality and quantity of production, use of low-quality cultivars and high production losses attributed to insufficient storage facilities); and measures for solving the problems are discussed. It is recommended that high-quality cultivars, such as Baitangying (litchi); Zhuliang and Shuangjiemu (longan); Dundilei and Huangjin (banana); and Luzon Xiangmong (mango) should be commercially grown.
