Abstract : A total of 171 samples of fruit and vegetables in Greece, 55 of which were domestic and 116 imported, was investigated for pesticide residues content. Pesticide residues were not detected in 126 samples including mangoes, guava, artichoke, green beans, cabbage, cauliflower, fresh peas, mandarins, melons, mushrooms, olives and watermelons. In the remaining 45, at least one pesticide residue was detected. Eight of the samples were reported as presumptive tolerance variations. A total of 17 pesticides was found in the 26% of samples detected with residues. Residues were detected with higher frequency in the domestic rather than in the imported samples, but most violations recorded were from samples of imported products.
