Role of polyethylene film cover on control of mango malformation.

Abstract : An experiment was conducted on 16-year-old mango trees cv. Dashehari to determine the effect of polyethylene film (200 gauge thickness) cover on floral malformation during 1994-95 and 1995-96. The branches covered with polyethylene film from October to January induced early flowering in January, whereas the branches covered during December, January and February induced flowering in the same month and produced maximum flowering in February. Plastic cover reduced the percentage of malformation when conducted during January and February. Some of the shoots treated with plastic cover from October to December turned vegetative while those covered with plastic during January and February failed to do so.
