Abstract : Mango (cv. Amrapali) plants were subjected to 5 planting systems (square system, 1600 plants/ha; hedge row system, 2670 plants/ha; double hedgerow system, 3556 plants/ha; paired row planting, 2133 plants/ha; or cluster planting, 2844 plants/ha) in a field experiment conducted in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India during 1987-99 to study the effect of different plant densities on growth, yield and fruit quality characters of the plant. Maximum yield per unit area was recorded from the double hedge row planting system, followed by cluster planting and hedge row system. Maximum plant height during 1999-2000 was recorded from the double hedge row system (2.95 m), followed by the hedge row system (2.69 m). Minimum plant height during 1999-2000 was obtained from the square system (2.55 m).
