Abstract : A study was conducted in Tamil Nadu, India during the 1998-99 off-season and 1999 main season to determine the effect of paclobutrazol (PP333) on mango cv. Neelum. Soil drenching treatments comprised: control, 5 or 10 ml PP333 at 120, 90 and 60 days before bud break. Results showed that soil drenching of PP333 with a basal application of 1 : 1 : 1.5 kg of N, P and K per tree enhanced the flower and fruit production. Among all treatments, soil drenching of 5 ml of PP333, 90 days before bud break recorded the maximum number of fruits (380) and fruit yield per tree (91.65 kg) both in 1998-99 off-season and 1999 main season (302 fruits and 72.85 kg per tree). The 5 ml PP333 treatment was followed by the 10 ml PP333 at 90 days before bud break. The efficacy of the chemical rate depended on the tree size and age.
