Abstract : The effect of foliar spray of urea (1 and 2%), Ethrel [ethephon] (0, 5 and 1 ml/litre), NAA (200 and 400 ppm) and KNO3 (1 and 2%) was studied on growth and differentiation of shoots of mango cv. Himsagar in the off year, during 1999-2000. The different bioregulators and nutrients were applied twice in the middle of August and October. All the treatments significantly affect the new shoot production both from fruited and non-fruited shoots. Treatment with Ethrel and KNO3 were effective for induction of flowering from these shoots. Flowering from newly produced vegetative flush of fruited and non-fruited shoots was maximum (1.33 and 44.0%) with Ethrel at 1 ml/litre and KNO3 at 2%, respectively. The effect of urea on flowering was not consistent. The fruit yield was highest (26.82 kg/tree) with KNO3 at 2%, followed by Ethrel at 1 ml/litre (23.19 kg/tree).
