Abstract : In studies with pot-grown mango seedlings the effects were compared of adding NaCl and Na2SO4, either separately or together, at salinity levels of 2-10 mmhos/cm. The percentage of leaves injured was highest with NaCl alone, and least with Na2SO4 alone. Symptoms typical of P and Mg deficiency were caused by Na2SO4, an association that was confirmed by leaf analysis. Some seedlings died at salinity levels of 4-6 mmhos/cm induced by the salts in mixture, and up to 50% died at higher levels with all treatments.
