Abstract : A programme for the eradication of 4 economically important fruit flies (Anastrepha ludens, Anastrepha obliqua, Anastrepha serpentina and Anastrepha striata) infesting orange, grapefruit, mandarin, apple, peach, and mango orchards in Mexico, is presented. The eradication programme involves: (1) surveys of pest populations by trapping and host fruit harvesting; (2) reduction of pest populations through cultural practices and selective bait sprays; (3) mass release of sterile flies and augmentative release of parasitoids (i.e. Doryctobracon crawfordi, Aganaspis pelleranoi, Coptera haywardi, Diachasmimorpha longicaudata [Biosteres longicaudatus] and Diachasmimorpha tryoni); and (4) enforcement of quarantine measures in fruit fly free areas.
