Abstract : The International Plant Genetic Resources Institute has identified 3 main (mango, citrus and rambutan) and 3 minor (durian, jackfruit and litchi) tropical and subtropical fruit species, as well as 3 species of local importance (carambola, mangosteen and longan), as priority species for studies on the conservation and use of genetic resources in Asia. An update is provided on studies on these species in relation to information gathering and dissemination; geographical distribution; characterization, evaluation and documentation of accessions; conservation strategies; socioeconomic aspects; training courses and workshops; and international collaboration and networking.
