Abstract : Extracts were obtained from normal and malformed shoots of the susceptible cv. Timour and from shoots of the resistant Zebda. Healthy Timour shoots contained higher total phenol and reducing sugar concentrations than Zebda shoots and malformed Timour shoots contained much higher total phenol, o-dihydroxy phenol and reducing sugar concentrations than healthy Timour shoots. Zebda shoot extracts contained more GA than helathy Timour shoots. Malformed Timour shoot extracts, when assayed biologically, revealed considerable growth inhibiting activity and only very low amounts of GA; however, they showed more auxin activity than healthy shoot extracts from either cv. whereas Zebda extracts contained high amounts of auxin antagonizing materials.
