Abstract : In September 2000, in the Gingee region, Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, India, an unusual outbreak of a flat-bodied grasshopper was encountered in mango. The damage due to nymphs and adults resulted in stripped appearance of the affected shoots. The adults feed more than the nymphs. The body colour, shape and other natural markings of the grasshopper were found to assemble or merge with the background of the green foliage, forming a cryptic character. The grasshopper was identified as P. ramakrishnae. Other characteristics of P. ramakrishnae are given.
