Abstract : Data from 1986-90 are analysed for 26 mango cultivars growing in the Mandacaru experimental field of Embrapa Semi-Árido near Juazeiro, Bahia, in the São Francisco Valley of eastern Brazil. The American cultivars Eldon and Haden and the Indian cultivars Dusheri and Langra showed the best tree development and growth. For the period of intense fruit production (November to February), Brasil, Eldon, Primor de Amoreira and Comprida Roxa produced the most fruits per tree per year (1412 fruits/tree in cv. Brasil). Best quality fruits for fresh consumption were produced by Tommy Atkins, Keitt, Van Dyke, Haden and Florigon. For fruits for processing, the best Brazilian cultivars were Carlotão, Extrema and Primor de Amoreira.
