Abstract : This paper describes the development of a rule-based expert system for the diagnosis of the main diseases (such as powdery mildew, anthracnose and black spot) of Indian mango. The objective is to provide computer-based support for agricultural specialists or farmers engaged in horticulture. The proposed expert system makes diagnosis based on response/responses of the user made against queries related to particular disease symptoms. The system, developed in Borland's Turbo-prolog 2.0 environment, contains information on the symptoms of 14 diseases of Indian mango observed during the fruiting or non-fruiting season. The results generated by the system are sound and consistent.
