Abstract : The effects of ethephon on the preharvest ripening and postharvest colour of mango (cv. Tommy Atkins) fruits were studied. Ethephon was applied at 60 or 67 days after flowering at 50, 100 or 200 mg/litre, or at 80 days after flowering at 50, 100, 200 or 400 mg/litre. Fruit length, diameter and fresh weight were evaluated at 59, 66, 73, 86, 100, 107 and 125 days after flowering, whereas fruit colour was evaluated at 14 days after harvesting. The variation in the rate and timing of ethephon application was not significant for all the parameters evaluated.
