Abstract : Soil samples from different cropping plots at the Horticultural Research Station, Assam, India, (viz. vegetable, coconut, lemon, banana, mango and pineapple) were collected randomly at a depth of 0-25 cm and analysed for chemical properties and microbial populations. The analysis indicated that soils were moderately acidic in nature, favourable in electrical conductivity and medium to high in organic carbon content. The available N and P status were low to medium and K ranged from low to high. The microbial populations showed widespread presence of Azotobacter, general bacteria and fungi in all soils.
