Abstract : Results of this study demonstrated that a significant correlation exists between stem circumference and other parameters such as dry mass, tree canopy volume and fruit yield for 'Sensation' mango trees in the Nelspruit area, South Africa. This makes it possible to use stem circumference for predicting yield potential, nutrient requirements and other tree related information such as total leaf area and total starch content of the tree parts at a particular phenological stage. This model is currently only developed for 'Sensation' mango trees in Nelspruit area, but it should be easy to use in other cultivars and areas. The data should also be used for cultivars with a fruit size problem to estimate the correct number of fruits to be left on trees. Data were based on unpruned trees.
